Product Review: Dessanage Paris | Replenishing Line

DISCLAIMER | This product was given to me by Influenster for the purpose of reviewing.

I intended to do several post on this product before this one, but my schedule didn’t allow it so I will include my first impressions and final thoughts.

The first thing I did when I opened the box was smelled each product. I’m not a smellologist, but I liked the scent. It is soft and strong at the same time. Each product had the same scent so for me after awhile it was too much. After the first wash I loved it. My hair felt really soft and clean.

Oleo Miracle Treatment

A few days after my first was I washed again. This my results were different. My hair felt dry and I had a few bumps in my head. I do have sensitive skin, but I’ve never gotten bumps before. I can’t say 100% whether it was the product, but it did cause dryness. I have been doing a moisturization routine so I immediately could tell the difference. I’m still trying to recover my moisture and it is starting to come back. I do like this product and would recommend using it once a month or once every few months to give your hair a good cleaning and reset.

Will I use it again? Maybe in a few months I will give it another try and see how it goes.

Just Watched | Save the Date

(Image and synopsis from Netflix)

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post.

The other night I watched the movie Save the Date via Netflix. The synopsis leaves out some details that might make the movie more interesting. The movie wasn’t bad and had some good actors in it, but I may not recommend it to anyone.

It’s one of those movies you put on while you are cleaning the apartment. It had moments that were interesting and then the ending made me mad because I felt like it took forever to get to this moment only to leave me hanging. It might be a good movie for deep discussion amongst friends, but not for entertainment.

Don’t watch if you’re sleepy. You will fall asleep.

Who is the Creative Entreprenuer?

(Image 1, Image 2, Image 3, Image 4, Image 5)

I have come across many blog post from individuals who not only share their knowledge for free via their blog, but they offer services as well. Many of the services range from navigating social media to creating graphics for your blog.

I follow many of these people because I like the content. Much of the information provided can be applied no matter what type of business you own. What I’ve noticed though is that most of the information seems to be for bloggers/writers. Not all creatives write or need to write/blog to sell their products.

Though I have a blog and post occasionally writing is not my creative. I create paintings, prints (paper and T-shirts) and I just started crocheting again. Again I can use some of the information from those blogs, but I haven’t found any that help non-writing creatives.

I feel that this is an untapped market of information that is hard to find for creatives like me. I am very new with sharing my art so I am learning myself which is how I know the information is hard to find.

If you know anyone who is sharing how to sell art let me know. As I learn I will share with you.

Happy Tuesday

Never Stop Fighting

My mom passed away 4 years ago and since then my life has been a mess. I gained 40 pounds, moved out of state (TX to MN), and was in a relationship that sucked every piece of energy out of me for 3 years.
The last 6 months of my moms life became more and more about caring for her and less caring for myself. I remember giving up on trying to lose weight. She said she wanted to see my skinny. After early mornings and late nights on top of working a full-time job I had no energy to care for myself.
After my mom passed I didn’t know what to do. I suddenly had all the time in the world, but couldn’t do anything with it. Six months later I moved to Minnesota. My father and stepmom helped move me here and after they left I started crying. I wondered who was going to tell me what to do lol. I was 31 and never made a decision without someone’s approval. I’m the baby girl. Everyone was protective of me. I was told no a lot growing up while everyone else was told yes. My siblings were stronger than me. Including my younger brother. He told me he felt like he was my older brother. So that is why I moved. To find my strength and to learn to take care of myself.
November 2011 I meet a guy. He’s short (I’m 5’8 and he’s probably 5’7), but good looking and seems nice. Nothing was right about this relationship. Too much happened in the 3 years we were together to write here, but let’s just say I was not taking care of myself. This is when I gained the last 25 of the 40. He has moved back to his home state so we are not together, but I hear from occasionally. I am now free to care for myself.
Self care is hard when you’ve never been taught. I had undiagnosed depression for 24 years. I was diagnosed just before my mom passed. I have no desire to take prescription drugs. I did that and I don’t think it helped at all. It’s a bandaid. My goal is to naturally heal myself of depression, get off blood pressure meds, and to have a healthy body. Not really looking for a number, but a feeling. I want to feel great and be in love with my body and myself.
I have to take time for me now. I’m fighting for my life. You must never stop fighting.

On The Surface | My Skin

I forgot to post a current picture so there it is. I may post one in natural light as well.

On The Surface: Becoming Makeup Free

For awhile now I’ve been wanting to stop wearing makeup. Although it is beautiful and artist are doing amazing things with it I never liked it for myself. I didn’t know how to apply it properly or find the right shade for my skin. It’s been more of a pain to me than an enhancement to my beauty.

In my early twenties I did not wear makeup. If I wore anything it was lipstick or gloss and mascara. I had beautifully clear skin. One of my coworkers called me a natural beauty. I disagreed, but to her the fact that I didn’t need makeup and still looked beautiful qualified me as such.

I long for the clear beautiful skin I had in my twenties. When I started gaining weight my skin started to breakout. The only time it was clear when I used a popular product sold online. It no longer works for me. Also I feel that I need to clear my skin from the inside out.

One of the things I hope to achieve in my healthy lifestyle journey is clear skin. I’ve switched (or switching its a process) to a plant based diet and other than my morning smoothie I will drink only water and tea. I do enjoy an adult beverage from time to time, but I will eventually cut that out as well.

I hope you will follow my journey as I document the changes in my skin and what tools I use to achieve. All post from this series will be titled “On The Surface” so it will be easy to find later. Have you gone through skin challenges? Share with us how you overcame them in the comments below.

Weight Loss Rollercoaster

Weight loss and literally been a rollercoaster for me. Have you had weeks were you are doing well and one day out of the weekend ruins all of your efforts? This happens to me often. I had a good week and went a little overboard on Saturday. It is 1:14AM Sunday as I write this and I’m like “why did you do that?” Now I have to spend all week to lose what I may have gained from that one day. I am be a little hard on myself. I know I shouldn’t do that.

This journey isn’t easy. We have to learn to be gentle with ourselves and know that mistakes happen. Choices and being prepared can help make these mistakes less likely to occur. I know my biggest mistake isn’t what I ate, but that I didn’t prepare. I left home without eating breakfast and after being out all day I was hungry. I bought and ate what ever. I had things at home, but again not having those foods prepped and ready to make a meal made me less likely to eat those foods.

I don’t like the rollercoaster ride. I’m getting off and going straight to…I don’t know the rollercoaster equivalent to planning, but that’s what I will do. Monday through Friday is usually not an issue for. It’s the weekends that I struggle with. Tomorrow I will buy my groceries (instead of going to see another movie. I’m addicted) and prepping my foods. This will including cleaning the fridge and getting rid of anything that needs to be tossed. By doing this when I open the fridge I see possibilities instead of food that is no longer edible (yuck lol).

Have you recognized triggers that cause temporary setbacks in your goals? What do you do to get out of it? Please share your experience in the comments.

Just Watched – Labor Day (Some SPOILERS)

I am writing this as I just finished watching the movie Labor Day (2013). This movie is about a young boy and his mother and their time spent with a man over the Labor Day weekend. It stars Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, and Gattlin Griffith. Kate plays a divorced single mom named Adele and while out shopping with her son Henry, they meet a man named Frank played by Josh Brolin. Frank recently escaped from prison and he asked for their help to get further out-of-town.

I love this movie. I didn’t know what to expect. I thought it would be suspenseful and I might need to hide behind a pillow, but it was far from that. This was a family love story. The story is being told by the son as an adult played by Tobey Maguire. Throughout the movie you see flashes of the past which seems a little confusing. Later it becomes clear that it is the story of what Frank was accused. Murder. I won’t give the details, but it was surprising. I’m not sure it was important to the movie, but it did help you understand that he really was a good guy.

This movie reminds me of my mom or Adele. Adele was in love with love. Life happens and the sadness gets worse. During this weekend Adele finds love again with Frank and they become a family, but this quickly ends once it is discovered that he is with them. Frank goes back to jail for about 20 years. Henry grows up to be a wonderful young man because of the influence that Frank has had on his life over the holiday weekend. In the end Frank gets out and is reunited with Adele.

I watched this movie on Netflix (this is not a sponsored post) and I gave it 5 stars. If you haven’t seen it already and you love, love stories I highly recommend it.

writing 101 challenge – day 10

happy birthday

i think for most people birthdays were very special when they were growing up. then you become an adult and for some of us birthdays mean less and less as the years go by. that is how i feel, but life is what you make it right? as a kid when our birthday came around we had cake and ice cream. this wasn’t something that we had all the time so i was excited for my birthday just to have that lovely combination. the special birthday boy or girl go to pick out the cake and ice cream flavor. i always got chocolate cake and neopolitan ice cream. those really were happy days. now for my birthday i rarely do anything. i take off from work. i’ll usually go to the movies and maybe out to each with my sisters. two years ago i went to chicago for the first time for my birthday. that was really fun. this year i did nothing again. after going to chicago the year before it was really boring staying local. i did do some shopping and i went the casino. that was low fun and not high big fun like chicago. next year i think i will go to new york or the beach. i am itching to put my toes into some beautiful soft sand and clear blue waters. im waiting to lose weight so i can enjoy the beach in some type of swimwear. whether i do that or not…i’m going to the beach.
